What makes a good dollar store line
Dollar store buying is a different discipline from general retail. The product has to hit a fixed retail price point while leaving workable margin, it has to sell through quickly enough to justify shelf space, and it usually has to look like more value than it cost. In practice that means three things matter more than anything else:
- Landed cost per unit, not headline case price. A cheap case that ships expensively is not cheap.
- Case pack size. Too deep and you tie up cash in one SKU; too shallow and you are reordering constantly.
- Assortment. Mixed-design cases let a small store look varied without buying variety it cannot fund.
